With the release of the official trailer for the upcoming biopic about the late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin last week, it signals that the wait is soon to be over! The highly anticipated film will follow the life of Aretha Franklin throughout her unprecedented and unparalleled career.

Set to premiere in the US on August 13, 2021, the movie RESPECT will have all of our attention and of course our R-E-S-P-E-C-T. By it’s premiere date, it will be three days shy of the three-year anniversary since the world last witnessed the beloved entertainer.

Despite the efforts of the family and close personal acquaintances of Franklin, another series about the late singer’s life was released earlier in the year by the name of Genius: Aretha, starring Cynthia Erivo as Aretha on NatGeo. Without discrediting the previous movie’s portrayal of Aretha (as I did not view the four part series), I’m sure that Cynthia Erivo’s portrayal of the singer was also captivating. However, I am more than excited to see Jennifer Hudson provide the depth and range that only Ms. Aretha herself could serve during her lifetime.
